Jen’s Favorite Things

Oprah Winfrey is a popular American TV personality, who built a multimillion dollar media business. During the 90s, she hosted a mid-afternoon TV talk show called, The Oprah Winfrey Show. At some point during the span of the show, Oprah started doing a segment called, “Oprah’s Favorite Things.” During one Christmas-themed show, she shared her favorite things and then gave one of each to her studio audience as a gift for being at the show (much to their delight and surprise).  Continue reading “Jen’s Favorite Things”

The Journey Home and a New Beginning…

As I was returning home, after completing Instantaneous Transformation Costa Rica 2018, I realized I had a choice. You see, a lot had happened for me during the 2-week leadership, communication and listening immersion course. When I arrived, I weighed 330 pounds. And when I left, I didn’t have a scale, so I can’t tell you what number I weighed. But, while I was there, I brought awareness to some behaviors I had that kept the weight in place. Once I saw those behaviors and quit judging myself for being the way I was (including the weight I was), I felt lighter and freer.  Continue reading “The Journey Home and a New Beginning…”

Moving on up…

In January 2018, I participated in a two-week immersion course called Instantaneous Transformation Costa Rica, hosted by Ariel and Shya Kane. The course took place on a beautiful, lush resort called Sueño Azul, in one of the national rainforests. When I arrived for the first week, I was assigned a room I would call home (room 26) and I subsequently “moved in.” On the following Saturday, after the first week concluded and we were getting ready for the second week, I was assigned a new room (room 53) to call home. The Magic Number

Something I’ve been thinking about lately is my magic number. You know the one – the number I want to pop up when I’m standing on the scale. I used to think that when I achieved the magic number, my life would start. I would get the boyfriend. Or the perfect job. Or travel. I used to think my life would be better if I weighed my magic number.  Continue reading “The Magic Number”

The body can talk to you… are you listening?

For the past 7 years, I have been attending weekend seminars on communication, listening and relating, hosted by Ariel and Shya Kane. I found the Kanes when I was searching for reasons why my life wasn’t the way I wanted it. Ariel and Shya wrote a book called, Working on Yourself Doesn’t Work, The 3 Principles of Instantaneous Transformation. It resonated with me. One of the ideas they present is about “true listening” – setting aside my opinions, agendas and prejudices and truly listening from another person’s perspective as if the words are brand new. What a difference it has made in my life. New possibilities continue to become available to me when I truly listen. I’ve also discovered that listening isn’t just about hearing people talk. It is possible to listen to my body as well. Continue reading “The body can talk to you… are you listening?”

Temptation Everywhere (that doesn’t have to be tempting!)

One Saturday morning, I was out running errands when I looked down at the gas gauge in my car. Realizing I was close to empty, I pulled over to the local gas station convenience store (QuikTrip). Usually, I would run into the store and buy a soda or some snacks to eat, but this time I was just content with putting gas in my car. As the gas was pumping, I began reminiscing about the previous weekend when I had attended a communications and listening seminar in New York City and was thinking about the friends I had stayed with.
